I feel like band music is more innovative and more performed than
orchestra music. I also feel that the audiences at college band
concerts accept modern music easier than the typical orchestra concerts.

I play in a group which performs a lot of modern music (Ohlone College
Wind Symphony in Fremont). We get a fairly good response to our music.
And there seem to be many many composers that actually get played.
