Andrea,

One can usually tell from the range of the part as to how it sho
uld be
played on the bass clarinet. I just got finished playing "Sholomo" and it
involved the transposition you mentioned. German bass clef, as played on
the bass clarinet sounds an octave (and a step) higher than written ( I
think I got that right...Dan?). Anyway, as I said, the range of the part is
a clue.
