I congratulate you on making a convincing argument. I feel that there
isn't a true American school however...just characteristics of different
teachers...like you said. However, with European countries there are
more specific set characteristics. When I change the vowels in my mouth
when I play, I don't necessarily sound like a different school--just a
different tonal quality (dark, warm, bright, stuffy, sick @-----. I agree
that tone itself does not define the national sound. It is everything else.
