Subj: bass cl. excerpts

I too have a copy of Michael Drapkin's bass cl. orchestra excerpts book,
graciously given to me by my teacher. I adore it, and I'm anxious to see
a book 2 =) This whole excerpts thing, coupled with a couple tougher
pieces we just played in concert today, got me thinking about the
possible interest/demand for a book of bass cl. excerpts from the band
repertoire. Spots in the bcl part to Corigliano's "Gazebo Dances" were
rather difficult, and I would have loved to have more than a couple weeks to
work on the exposed lines. I'd like to do my doctoral dissertation (when
I get that far =) on the role of the bass and contrabass clarinets in the
concert band, and a band excerpt book would be something I'd keep in
mind.

BTW, if anyone has gone through the music ed program at the U. of Iowa,
talk to me. Iowa's my top choice for grad work in teaching certification
and MME at first, then back for conducting/composition. I had the chance
to chat with Myron Welch this weekend, and things looked and sounded
mighty good! He even liked my band piece in-progress *hmmm*

in 3 years with the Band...)
