I would like to second Mr. Leeson's comments on the value of seeking out
the humor in music and letting it go. Perhaps we have been trained to
concentrate a little too much on the serious side of things. When I am
coaching performers in rehearsals of my own music, I often find myself
requesting that they loosen up, have fun with the music, and put their own
personality into the playing. Very often I see an unwillingness to amplify
that which is on the printed page.
