I have found Lurie reeds to be consistent, more out of the box will work, but
that they don't last. Try going to a 4 or even 4 -1/2 strength. I don't
think there is an advantage to the Premium over the proletariat. The bottom
line is, VanDoren reeds, as inconsistent as they are, are still the best, and
a good V-12 can last a long time. Lee Callet
