Linda,
Someone gave me a Mitchell Lurie reed some time ago and it
sat in my case until all my other ones were soiled and slimy,
so I gave it a try. Just like all the other reeds I've
used in 45 years of playing. Too stiff and airy in the beginning,
better and better as time went on. Now I can't live without
it. (That is not to say I haven't used a few 2-3 times and
then crushed them violently, stomping on them, scraping them
against concrete walls, cursing at them, until what was left
would make a fine delicate papyrus -- all in an innocent
moment of frustration, of course. 8-)
Anyway, I must start looking for a new Mitchell Lurie reed
soon, as this one won't last forever. Then again, maybe
I'll just buy a Rico #2 and see how it goes. . . 8-)

Oliver
