Hi Suzanne and welcome to the list.

I am not able to be very precise in all details with respect to your
clarinet, but Bettoney was an old Boston firm that, at one time,
combined with a firm called, "Cundy" and the Cundy-Bettoney clarinet
was sold by Sears Roebuck for years and years. It was a very
respectable clarinet and you are fortunate to own one.

If you are interested in a modest priced plastic or wooden clarinet, you
should consider the Amati. That have a plastic one at $209 and
a Grenadilla wood instrument at $299. The Vito clarinet (which is
made by LeBlanc) has a minimum entry price of $399 for Grenadilla, but
they do have one that they call "Rosetone" wood for $259 and a plastic
model at $239.

Call The Woodwind and the Brasswind at 1-800-348-5003 and ask for their
catalog. Or ask to speak to their clarinet specialist and seek his/her
advice.
