The simplest point in flutter tonguing, which no-one seems to have
mentioned yet, is that usually it's necessary to move the mouthpiece out
of the way of the tongue, ie take less mouthpiece in the mouth than usual.
Also it can be hard to get enough air pressure to make the reed speak, you
might have to blow harder than you expect and/or use a softer reed.

I have a student who can't flutter tongue, but he demonstrated the glottal
trill which I had never heard of- when he does it it sounds just like
flutter tonguing, certainly an acceptable substitute...
