Klarinet Archive - Posting 000046.txt from 1994/11
From: Lorne G Buick - Music TA <lgbuick@-----.CA> Subj: Symphony salaries (corrections) Date: Thu, 3 Nov 1994 03:19:25 -0500
In yesterday's message (in answer to Chris C.'s query about how much
clarinetists earn in orchestras) I got it all wrong, so here are some
corrections (I have the actual book in front of me now).
The lowest- paid orch. in Canada is right here in my temporary home,
Thunder Bay: $13,857/yr. Saskatoon actuallly has a 37 wk. season so their
minimum is $16,975/yr. (I did get one thing right- Sask. has the lowest
weekly salary at $458.75)
The highest paid is not Montreal but Toronto, at $53,680/yr (min.); next
is the National Arts Centre Orch. at $52,200/yr.; Montreal is third at
$50,600. These three negotiate principal salaries, so I don't know how
much the actual salaries are- I would guess at least $65,000 (almost
certainly more).
