Klarinet Archive - Posting 000013.txt from 1994/11

I bought a couple of contrabass reeds (Vandoren 2s; thanks
to those of you who gave me advice and suggestions) and
actually tried to put the CB through its paces last night.

It's quite an instrument! I told someone via e-mail that
it was a wrapped model, but I was wrong (as I found out
when I assembled it); it's mostly straight and looks like
a metal bass clarinet with a serious pituitary condition.
The key action feels wonderful, with the exception of the
left thumb which needs some extra pressure.

The notes speak better than I had expected, especially in
the clarion register. I am having problems, though, with
squawks when I try to articulate. Is this because the reed
is fairly soft, or is it my embouchure? If anyone can give
me hints about what to do embouchure-wise, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Claudia
