Sorry to clutter, but I must speak.

I started with this clarinet thing in 1941. I was serious about
from the mid 40's until the late 50's. I had some wonderful teachers and
met, heard and occassionally worked with some great clarinetists
(there was a considerable flow between the service bands and the
major orchestras back then).

This network is wonderful. I have learned more in a shorter time than
ever before. There are technical glitches (I think through an editor mixup
of mine I just sent a garbled message). There are duplicates; there are
messages which are out of order (chronologically or otherwise). But,
because of the efforts of many of you (I started to list you but there
are too many), we are all learning -- well, anyway I am. THANK YOU!

Has anyone put an oscilloscope to use in trying to determine the
meaning of "dark" or "bright" (are these antonyms?)? I had always
thought (with no specific justification) that bright meant richer in
the higher overtones.
