On the subject of mouldy reeds (yuck!), I can speak from first hand
experience. The summer of 1993 was spent performing in China, and the heat
and humidity caused great problems with the reeds (and the instruments). I
used a hair drier to dry out the currently used reeds each evening. Also a
short soak in hydrogen peroxide helps some, followed by a good brushing with
a tooth brush.
