I, too, have had the "moldy reed problem" with the Vandoren reed case. But,
once I figured out that the middle portion pulls out and that you can clean
it, I've had no problems at all. As long as you clean it regularly and dry it
completely before re-assembling it, it should be OK. I can't say that I'm
overly enchanted with the Vandoren reed case, and I'd like to get a nice
wooden one that will hold 6-8 reeds, but it's what I have at the moment.
