Gervais de Peyer (sp?) also played with vibrato. Somebody told me Benny
Goodman did some study with him - ?

I have an historic recording of the Liszt Piano Concerti with Emil Sauer
and the Paris Conservatoire Orcehstra conducted by Felix Weingartner,
recorded in 1938. I'll have to listen to it again, but as I recall the
clarinet is one of the only winds played with any vibrato, and it's the
particular type used in France back then: fast and narrow.

Non-Western-European ethnic/folk use of the clarinet tends to go heavy on
the vibrato. I'm doing a lot of middle-eastern music now and find it
really important to the correct sound. The embrochure tends to be looser,
too.
