Vibrato is used by quite a number of clarinet players. I tend to
like it only in extremely small quantities on "bad" notes, or low notes.
Whether or not to use it is up to the performer. I would not use it on,
say, the Mozart, but, Stravinsky Third Movement, maybe.
If you want to hear famous people using vibrato, listen to Harold
Wright doing any Brahms, and hear what I feel,(just an opinion, though)
is tasteful vibrato. Stanley Drucker favors it, as well asRichard
Stoltzman, and several others. If you want to hear vibrato used very
heavily, listen to some Benny Goodman, or a Boston musician, Jonathan
Cohler.
Any question, comments, or responses are highly encouraged, I am in
