Sorry for posting so close together, but I forgot something.
I feel that while it is important to keep the coposer in mind, it is up to us
as conductor and/or player turn to what is essentially ink on some paper into
music. Since we can never be in the mind of the coposer (unless playing a piece
written by yourself), one can therefore NEVER (this includes being in contact
with the composer) play any piece exactly as the composer intended. Even if we
did, what good would it do us. How can the music one plays be truly
inspired/inspiring if we do not put our self into the playing. This by
definition will differ from what the composer intended. We can discuss this
topic forever (I am not sure that that would necissarily be a bad thing), but
it all boils down to the fact that at some point we all will have to make a
decision (based upon available resources and *Our own best musical judgemet*)
whether to try to follow exactly what the composer wants or to you think he/she
wants or whether to do what works for you. I personally think an informed
choice is much better than blindly following by mob mentality. This goes for
interpretation as well as what brand instrument to play, what reed to use, and
what ligature to use. I am not trying to suggest that one should not play as
they feel the composer would want it, but just that they should make that
decision for themselves.

Just my 20 Grvshen.
