Hey gang,
Someone asked this weekend about Selmer clarinets. I have had a 10G for
about six years and still love it. I find it is easy to keep in tune, even if
it's tone is not as good as some other brands. My main interest is with
ensembles (I happen to feel that solo playing is too often more about showing
off than about making music. Not to say that those who like solo music are
necissarily show-offs) rather than with solo playing. As far as reeds go, I
have rarely had trouble with V-12's. Perhaps I've been lucky. Then again,
perhaps I am too much of an oaf to know the difference. :^) As I stated before,
I do actually prefer the shoelace lig, but I am too klutzy to get it on in a
short enough amount of time for ensembles or class.

While I am thinking of it, Tonya, when you post something to the group, you
won't get a copy of it. If it doesn't get where it's going, you will get a
message back telling you it didn't go where it was supposed to. Perhaps someone
on the list who knows can tell us all if one can set it up to get their own
posts. (sorry I am not able to look at the subscription info at the present
time, so I thought I'd ask while it was on my mind.) :^)

I have two questions...

1) My roomate lent me his clarinet in A for my conducting class. (we're
conducting/playing Haydn 104, and I also want to use it for my Senior Recital.)
Both the case and instrument are rather old, and the case smells of an attic.
last week when I played it, I had an allergic reaction to the case. (The
clarinet is fine if left out of the case for a few hours.) Somebody at school
suggested that it might be mold or some such thing that caused this problem.
Does any one have any suggestions for fumigating an otherwise perfectly good
case without damaging a beautiful instrument? (It's a limited edition Buffet
made out of some wood that is not Grenadilla.)

2) I hate to burden this group with an unrelated question, but I am having
difficulty finding a recording of "Variations on a Korean Folk Song" by John
Barnes Chance. I have found one record store that has it in their "MUZE" but
they (for some unknown reason) cannot/will not special order it for me. If you
don't know it, the clarinet part in the beginning is quite good. (The whole
piece is quite good for that matter.) If anyone can help me locate a copy, I
would appreciate it greatly.
