As quoted from Dan Leeson:
> In Germany there is Sabine Meyer. Astounding player.

Speaking of which, the German TV channel ZDF had a fifteen minute item
on (and with) her last Friday night. The occasion was that she has her
first (I think) CD out, titled "Blues for Sabine".

They also reported about the disaster she's had with the all-male
(except for her) Philharmonic: after years of the men trying to get her
to leave, she quit. Things have only gotten better for her since then,
she said. She can now play what she wants, and as she's interested in
both classical and jazz, she now trying two bridge the gap between those
two. The CD should be a step in this direction.

In the report, they showed her playing a part of the clarinet concerto
Copland wrote for Benny Goodman.

[Interesting sideline: there was footage of her playing both with a
metal ligature and with a string ligature, and with and without a
strap.]

Re: the "Astounding player" bit: she's also an incredibly accomplished
piano player (they showed her playing the piano as well).

Cheers,
