Don Oehler writes interesting notes. Thank you Don.

What I read in your comments is more of the same. "Everybody says there
is a difference in national characteristics so it must be so." And Jack
Brymer suggesting that all Americans sound the same is a terrific statement
if I could figure out what he means by that. It is not an argument and
does not present objective evidence to allow national differences in
playing styles to be identified. Because Jack is a terrific clarinet
player (a very terrific clarinet player) gives him no pipeline to the
infinite on this question. He carries his own set of nationalistic
prides and, in this context, all Germans sound the same to him, too. What
he may mean is that all non-English players sound alike, and if that is the
case, he agrees with me; i.e., there isn't much difference.

Can no one out there be objective? What are the differences?

Are all the responses going to be that I am full of ca-ca because there
is a difference, nyah?

Does no one translate "the difference that I hear" to "the objective
differences that exist"? Give me a list of these differences, please.

Telling anecdotes about conductors having problems with multi national clarinet
players does not, in my very humble opinion, qualify a
valid counterargument.

Telling me I am full of ca-ca does not get at the truth. And thus far,
no one has offered anything other then their belief that I am full of ca-ca.
That may be true in any case, but if so, it is independent of this discussion.

Somewhat black and blue, but still standing proud with the flag, apple pie,
motherhood, and American processed cheddar cheese!
