Subj: Mouthpieces (Factual comparisons?)

I'm a technical kind of guy and when I decided I should review my
mouthpiece choice, I tried to do some factual research. Having given up
on the clarinet literature I could find, I ended up using a mixture of
clarinet and sax sources to list the parts of a mouthpiece that make a
difference plus some sense of the difference each makes. In addition to
the length of the curving section and the final tip opening, the size of
the tip rail and the size of the side rails differ. And the sax people
talk a lot about the shapes of the internal cavity (baffle, etc.) I may
have put that on disk, I
ll look for it tonight and post it if I can find it.

BUT then, so what. If you look in a big catalog, you get a table of
facings. Noone publishes a multiple dimension comparison chart. I
finally found a music store that had a comparison sheet by Vandoren of
the Vandoren mouthpieces and used that to pick one. But I haven't tried
it yet.
