Nick,

Hallelujah! You've finally asked the question I've been wanting to ask for
years, but hesitated so noone would know I wasn't really "in" as far as the
arcane subject of mouthpieces was concerned. I have a definate feeling that
there are a lot of clarinetists (and, yes, saxophonists too) out there who
really don't know how to intelligently compare the technical aspects of
mouthpieces. I agree that, when it comes right down to it, you need to try
out several to find out what best fits your particular physical structure and
aesthetic ear. Wouldn't it be nice, though, to be able to narrow down the
horrendous number of possibilities you have to try out. If anybody knows of
a good description of the different facets of the various brands, styles,
sizes, etc., etc. of mouthpieces, please broadcast it loud and clear. If not,
would some kind, knowledgable soul please write one. I'll be standing in line
to buy it.

Lew Bowling, U. of KY
