In seventeenth-century Germany (and possibly elsewhere, and later), organs used
with choirs were likely to be tuned roughly a tone lower thtan the prevailing
standard; this was known as "Chorton" as contrasted with "Kammerton." No doubt,
someone on this list knows a lot more about this than I do.
