Before putting your rolls of dental floss back on the shelves you may
wish to note that dental floss is a commonly used material for binding
tenons when cork is not appropriate. The traditional material for this job
is linen or hemp thread. Since waxed nylon doesn't swell when wet, is
lubricated, and comes in convenient packages it can have a perfectly serious
place in a woodwind player's first aid kit.
