Has anyone considered the neon-colored shoestrings made for some of the high
top tennis shoes? I think bright orange or neon green shoe strings would
bring a certain je ne sais quoi to the mystique of holding the reed on the
mouthpiece.
Shari...you'll spend half your practise/playing time trying to get the
reed on straight if you use a shoe lace or other waxed string. The Luyben
is a plastic ligature which sells for under $10 and is quite responsive.
There is a Bonade metal ligature which works well and is fairly consistent,
and reasonably priced. Anyone in junior or senior high school learning the
clarinet need not struggle with lace-on ligatures. Lee Callet
