On the contrary, I found that the sound with shoestring was not duller,
but richer, fuller and more brilliant. But then, this was in comparison
with some generic metal ligature.

The one time I tried a Rovner was when I tried that Keilwerth straight
alto saxophone. It seemed to work all right, but struck me as a little
cumbersome, though I suppose one could get used to it (perhaps it needs
breaking in).

Don't knock shoestring till you've tried it!
