What was the key of the clarinet d'amour and what was it's compass? I want to
make sure, whenever I see Hoeprecht's stuff that I don't confuse a basset
clarinet with a clarinet d'amour.

Incidentally, and I cannot yet confirm this, Hoeprecht seems to have come
across oneof Stadler's very instruments!! It is a basset clarinet in C.

What on earth would one play on a basset clarinet in C? There is no
repertoire that I know of that demands it. Or would the extension have
given the instrument additional character to its sound, just as my full
Boehm B-flat has a different character than my plain Boehm B-flat, a
character difference that I attribute to the extra length of the instrument
and which plays a role even though I don't use the extra note very frequently?
