Subj: stadler's clarinet?
Date: Fri, 14 Oct 1994 11:44:26 -0400

Remarkable news, if the picture shows what one hopes it shows. The clarinette
d'amour also had a bulb at the bottom, of course. Does this picture have a
date? Is it obviously accurate enough for one to draw the conclusion that it
depicts a basset clarinet? From Dan's message, he may not know the answers to
these points yet.
The player's name is "Hoeprecht", by the way - I believe he is Dutch, and I've
heard him live; he is v-e-r-y good!
The points about the date and the clarinette d'amour go together; I think
Stadler lived long enough to be playing in the period when this peculiar
instrument has its brief spell of fashionability.
(Read Rendell on this object - this is where most of my knowledge comes from).
