Nick,

Perhaps the key to your problem is breath control and support. You may try
this...

Start with a long tone on low e and hold as long as you can with the least
number of undulations in the sound as possible. Then when you stop or run out
of air, whichever comes first take a slow two or three beat breath making sure
that you breath from the lower half of your torso expanding the diaphragm as
much as possible and then play again. Once the breath is accomplished then
pick up the tempo of you exercise, start at about 60 to the quarter note, and
decrease the time that you take to breathe. Start with long tones and then
graduate to slow chromatic scales and then all scales, major, minor, augmented,
diminished, whole tone then try the twelth exercise. (e-b, f-c, etc...) Make
sure that all are done at a forte dynamic level and that you keep the support
in your diaphragm up and always remember to breath properly and deeply. I have
some more suggestions if needed. Good Luck.
