John, I did not in any way interpret your excellent analysis as an
argument, and even if I did, I hold no pipeline to the infinite which
forbids someone from not only arguing with me but winning the argument.

Your points are excellent. I got carried away with my own brilliance
and neglected the pitch difference between music of 1785 and music of
1994. But I still agree with the conductor. It is one thing for
someone in high school (and who probably does not have an A clarinet)
to play the Mozart concerto on a B-flat clarinet, but quit another for
someone auditioning for the 1st chair of one of America's biggest orchestras
to do that.

Come and argue anytime. Win the argument and get a prize. When you
win an argument with me, I have learned something and that is a
precious thing to have happen to me at any time. In effect, I win
whenever you win an argument with me. In fact, we both win.
