Subj: Transposition Tips?, Sax entries.

I noticed there's been a lot of mention of transposition on the list lately, so
I thought this would be an appropriate question. Anyone have any tips on
transposing? I know I have to just practice doing it, but I'm hoping someone
has some insight.

I have been accompanying vocalists in a praise band and this has caused me to
have to transpose on a regular basis. We put things into a key that is easier
for the vocalists to sing in. This is no problem for the leader, since his
keyboard can switch keys at the touch of a button. He still plays it the way
he learned it. I have yet to find a horn with one of these magic buttons.
The key gets moved around a lot during practices.

BTW, I do most of this on sax, so I am one of those doublers that like having
the saxaphone entries here. I guess what we really need is a ZAXAPHONE list!
