Last I heard Buffet still offered R13 pitched in D. I am confused.
I should be able to transpose parts written for B.C. in A on my
B.C. in B-flat. Seems to be the same as transposing parts written
for clarinet in D on an E-flat clarinet. Should I buy a D?
The R13 taday is a very different instrument from that 20 years
ago (and that differed from the earlier ones). The Prestige R13
is very differnet from the Standard R13 (never mind RC or Elite).
Mozart wrote for none of these instruments.

Bottom line, IMHO, any variation from what the composer wrote
should only be done as a conscious act of interpretation.
It seems to me that the audience should then respond to the
music and (not the brand name on the bell or the color of
the composer's ink). I believe M. Hindsley had a reason for
the set of clarinets at the U of Illinois (several reasons).
