I don't remember Dan's message, so maybe this is out of context. I'm
not an educator, but I don't believe that you can choose one mouthpiece
to last for life, and I believe that a student instrument might have
characteristics designed to facilitate playing that would be undesired
by an experienced player.

Am I crazy here, or is there a place for student horns & student mouthpieces?
Its been a few decades, so my memory is hazy, but it seems to me that my
first clarinet was designed with different barrel & bore to facilitate
student use (its a wooden Evette -- wanna buy it?). Is this just an
excuse to sell cheap horns? I'd still like to believe that the Larry
Teal sax mouthpiece is designed for students and meant to be something
you grow out of (I did).
