Sorry I have been away for a couple of weeks, and only now have I
seen the messages about an address for the Australian Music Centre, so
here it is!
Australian Music Centre
PO Box N690
Grosvenor Place
Sydney NSW 2000
Tel:(02) 247 4677
E-Mail:amc@-----.au
Sometimes you have to send the message a couple of times to get through,
as they take their line through the state library of NSW.
The centre acts as a depository for a large number of Australian composers
who are published and unpublished. Many scores are facsimilies of autograph
scores, which are sold by the centre with the majority of the proceeds
going directly to the composer. As I am writing my thesis on a composer
named Carl Vine, they have been extremely helpful. There is also a large
collection of tapes and CD's for loan, and I believe that one can become
a member even if not in Australia. The library also keeps files on all
the composers-newspaper articles, journal articles etc, and when requested
can send copies of this information for the price of the photocopying and
postage. The pieces I listed some time ago came from a list supplied by
the AMC of clarinet music - they also have seperate lists for keyboard
music, orchestral music etc. This makes it a lot easier to find specific
things!! As to the question about Gerard Brophy, I am not familiar with
his work directly, but it would not be difficult for me to find out
exactly what style he writes in - I will post some info later in the
week.
I will also have to find a fax number (I don't have one to hand!) so I
will get that as well. As many of you are in the USA, I think the exchange
rate will be favourable to you if you make any purchases!!!
I will speak to you all soon!!!
Michelle Williams.
