Recently, David Lechner and Jay Heiser wrote about the Keilwerth
Straight Alto Saxophone. This instrument has actually been around for
some time. I first saw and played it at the 7TH WORLD SAXOPHONE CONGRESS
in Nuremburg in 1982. It is quite a fascinating instrument without a
practical application. In my opinion, the sound is radically different
than the accustomed saxophone sound. Best Wishes!
