Lori, thank you so very much for your contribution to the discussion.
I have had many opportunities to be at OSU for seminars, concerts,
lectures, etc. so I know what a wonderful education you are getting there
and in such marvellous surroundings with a world class faculty.

I must inquire what you meant when you said that you had a B45 in
high school but you "outgrew it." I know that being at OSU and
working with my friend Jim Pyne would cause you to want to use one
of his mouthpieces, and that is a very good thing because they are
wonderful and he works hard on every one. But what do you mean when
you say you "outgrew it." A great mouthpiece will remain great forever
and you can't outgrow it. A lousy mouthpiece is lousy forever and one
should not have even played on it, much less outgrow it. Unless your
head changed shape, or some other aspect to your physicality was altered,
I don't know what outgrowing a mouthpiece does to one.

If you now play on a Pyne, and find it a good mouthpiece (which is
almost certainly the case), you will be playing on it when you are 94.
You may find a better one (probably also made by Pyne) but you still will
not have outgrown the earlier one.

Aren't you sorry you let a minor phrase slip out, and ZING, you are
attacked from 2,000 miles away? On the other hand, I may have something
to learn here. So tell my your side of the matter and I will listen
with intensity and earnestness.

Give my best regards to Jim Pyne and tell him I remember our performances
of the Gran Partitta in Columbus with great pleasure. My regards also to
your wonderful bassoon instructor, Chris Weait.
