Yes David, you have stepped into the very deep dark murky world of
clarinet mouthpiece discussions.
But, consider; the Vandoren B-45 is readily available.
it's priced well, especially through
specialty shops.
it takes a moderate reed with most brands
or styles offering success (stay clear
of Olivieri as they tend to squeel on
the B-45).
the B-45 seems to work well with most
clarinets that I've tried.
some wonderful artists have been extremely
successful with these, notably Rudolph
Stalder, Guy Deplus, and John McCaw
(and many others, too.).
some wonderful Jr. High artists also have been
very successful.
and, they seems to be somewhat consistent

In my opinion the Luyben lig. is good but many others do the
same job; try a rubber band off the music room floor!
