I must first apologize for replying to this on the listserv, but I could not
find an address for Mr. Holt. anywhere in his posting. I realize that most
(probably more like all) of you will not recognize me, for I too am new. Well,
I've been on the net for about 1 1/2 yrs, but I only heard about this list over
the summer, and only recieved my account for the semester a few days ago.
Anyway, I'm a senior Music Ed. major = Montclair State University in Upper
Montclair, NJ. My major instrument is of course clarinet.
Mr. Holt, the B-45 is a rather good mouthpiece, but it is not the correct
mouthpiece for everybody. I strongly feel that it is important for the student
to try a few good mouhhpieces, such as the B-45 or the HS**, or any other of
the mouthpieces in their class. Only the individual can tell you what is best
for them. I have heard horror stories of both high school and college teachers
that require all of their clarinetists to use the same mouth piece. This is not
a good way to either make them feel comfortable, or get them to play better.
Well, there you have it, my $0.02. I realize that many of you on this list are
professional players, teachers, etc..., and could (not to mention probably
will) give Mr. Holt a more concise answer. I now commend him to your care. :^)
