Subj: Rachmaninov 2 bass part

I'm surprised at all the hi-tech discussion on an old problem with the
bass parts to Rachmaninov 2, Ravel, etc. Why not just write out the part
by hand? - there are several advantages to this. First, it only costs you
the price of a pen and manuscript paper. Second, if you can't read bass
clef (I must say that I think this is an essential skill for an
orchestral bass player) or transpose at sight, you'll get lots of
practice simply by writing out the transposition. Third, you'll
gradually develop your own library of transposed parts. Fourth, from what
people have said in this discussion, you'll get the part done a whole lot
faster and with fewer headaches than if you have to use a computer
programme!
Don't just 'B flat', get 'A' life.....
