After modifying the "Cc" address, I am retransmitting the following
momentous message, which did not get through to anyone, with the
possible exception of Dan Leeson. Hope you receive it this time.

Dan,

I vaguely remember seeing parts of that movie or something like it
on Cable about a year ago. I couldn't handle too much of it either and
didn't watch it for very long.

If it's the movie I remember, it was in color (or colorized),
and the Goodman and Miranda numbers were supposed to be entertainment
sideshows to the main story, which I hadn't watched long enough to identify
or report on. In the sequence I saw, Goodman wore a blue suit and,
besides singing, also played a jazz solo, which was fairly respectable.

Another thing that stuck in my mind was that the seating
arrangement of the band was weird. The players were spread out so that
performers (like Goodman) could walk among them when they played or sang.
I also recall a production latin dance number that followed, which was
disappointingly below Hollywood standards.

The thing that surprises me is that I remembered anything at all
about the movie since I had't seen it for some time, and it wasn't
exactly memorable. Since AMC has played the film before, perhaps there
are merits to the movie that I didn't see because I turned the set from
that channel so rapidly.

I wrote this message up to this point on Monday, September 26th,
after which I put it on hold while I left town on business. When I
returned today, Wednesday, September 28th, I saw the message from
Gertjan van Oosten, who seems to have correctly identified the picture.
Score another informative contribution for this Netherlands communicator,
who recently told us about Don Byron's klezmer ensemble playing the
music of Mickey Katz at the North Sea Jazz Festival.
