I have tried several times to post personal messages to Rod Mcdonald and
Ian Witten at the e-mail addresses shown in the Klarinet list. Each time a
failure.......there must be something about New Zealand electrons....
The gist of these messages was that written klezmer music *is* available,
and a good starting point is the excellent book by Henry Sapoznik "The
Compleat Klezmer". This book contains numerous transcriptions of recordings
in the YIVO archives as well as musical analysis of the tunes and a general
musical introduction by Pete Sokolow. Henry also relates the story of his
own background and how he came to take on the task of producing the book.

my publishing that address, and no doubt he will tell interested players
about other books (and recordings by such people as Dave Tarras, Sid
Beckerman etc).
