I've always (and just for fun, haven't had the chance in performane, used
lip/jaw and the smooth lifting of fingers. Perhaps a jazzier mouthpiece
should help. My impression of a jazz mouthpiece is that the note you
get is much more up to you. I also recall that I chose my Selber 9*
(star) over the straight 9 because "they" told me the 9* permitted more
bending of notes.
Who is the expert on this?
