Subj: David Gott's comments on aesthetics

David suggested that a beautiful instrument would not make a bad player
perform well, and his interesting view was based on a couple of comments,
including mine, that suggested that a player might be positively influenced
by the beauty of an instrument.

David, I was only suggesting what I thought happened to me when I do certain
things that can only be called "aesthetic." This included getting my
fingernails manicured, chrome plating the keys of my clarinet, etc., etc.
It may be that this has no affect on anyone but me. And it also may imply
that there is a minimal level of competence before the phenomenon kicks in.

Also I do not know if I really play better when these things happen. It is
only that I think I play better. Maybe I play worse.
