Lisa, if you are happy with your clear plastic clarinet, I have no business
making yuk sounds with reference to it.

I noticed that at the end of your note you referenced a comment of my friend
Steve Trier of London. He is a great player and his basset horn work makes
me dizzy with envy. I want to mention that Steve had wooden bells made for
both his basset horn and his bass clarinet. His argument was that metal
bells amplify the least pleasant sounds of the instruments.

I tried to get wooden bells made here and the problem was the cost of
purchase of the device to attatch the bells to the instruments. That
little tenon attachment at the lower joint of a b.c. was more than $800
the last time I looked and that was quite a while ago. The bell was not
very expensive, but the parts were killers.
