1- delrin is a plastic -- seems like it is from DuPont -- polymer of some
aldehyde if I recall
2- resonite is a plastic (Bundy)
3- DEG barrel is aluminum! I never heard of an aluminum clarinet.
4- The differential equations for design of a clarinet are not well set;
they are not amenable to mathematical solutions. Do not ever expect a
"scientifically" correct design. Instrument makers are artists not
engineers.
5- Of course the market drives the makers. Clarinetists are a conservative
lot. Hardly any improvement in the last 150 years has gained wide
acceptance.
6- Maybe we will see aluminum clarinets in the future.
