Holly takes a l-o-n-g time to get big. This is not helpful. Additionally, at
least in the wild in England, it grows often as a sort of undershrub, in shady
conditions, which s-l-o-w-s down its growth even more. A holly plantation would
need a carefully calculated mix of male and female trees, too - holly is
monoecious.
