To All:
We will be in deep trouble when the wood runs out (both Arundo Donax
and Grenadilla). I was very impressed with the composite wood prototypes I
palyed at the ICA conference in Chicago this summer. They felt like good
wood and played the same. Maybe that's our answer (for the future).
All I can say is: Stock Up On Good Clarinets. Try the Yamahas. I've
been playing on the 72CS's for a couple of months and just love them. They
are a great orchestral clarinet: even intonation and response. My
colleagues in the LA Pops and the Capistrano Valley Orchestra have been most
positive about my sound with these instruments.
The future will bring substitutes for "clarinet wood" (I hope). For
now, find some good axes!!!
