I too find it curious that this piece is not in the recorded literature,
hence my question. What might be wrong with it?

I am not aware of any recordings of the Jenner Sonata at present. The work
was dedicated to Muhlfeld and Jenner did work with Brahms. It is not
performed
(IMHO) very often--which is a pity (IMHO). The slow movement--oh, well!
I will check to find a recording--I will contact you directly about one that
I have in mind.
