Hello everyone,

I'm playing the Boulez "Domaines" this year and I have a couple of questions
for those of you who have played it before.

1) In two Cahiers he has listed 6 different dynamic markings for one fragment
separated with a line. The way that it's written numbered 1-6 one would think
that that means to chose one marking except for one problem, two of them are
repeated. My question is did Boulez's copiest make an error or does the first
three markings apply to the grae note before the longer note and the second set
(#' 4-6)apply to the long note.

2) My second question is how are people interpreting the rests at the end of
certain fragments? It is not understood why at the end of an unmetered
fragment why there would be a rest of a beat or two beats long. (quarter notes
that is) I am inclined to think that this is where Boulez wants the audience to
hear the player breath or that he's pulling the John Cage 4'33" thing and
wanting complete silence thus making the audience a part of the actual
performance. Any thoughts?

Hope that somebody has some suggestions.

Thanks,
Michael Norsworthy
