Thanks for the interesting post about the Berlin visit! I was especially
interested to read of your hearing the German Premiere of Messiaen's
_Eclairs sur l'Au-Dela_ (roughly "Illuminations on the Beyond"). I made
the pilgrimage to the world premiere in NYC (the work was commissioned by
the NY Philharmonic), flying out from Oregon (I'm mainly an organist, and
play most of his organ works, and have written related articles).

You mention Wurlitzer clarinets. What can anyone tell me about Clemens
Wurlitzer of Wernitz-Gruen? They made my A clarinet, an Oehler-system
which I traded for the Albert-system Kohlert B-flat which I'd restored.
The A really plays well, though like many older horns the tuning needs a
little compensation. It came without mouthpiece, so I use my Vandoren
Jazz mouthpiece on it from my B-flat, and it's fine! I guess that a
French mouthpiece shouldn't work on a German clarinet, but I can't find
anything the matter! The tone is really lovely - a real sweetheart of a
horn!
